Delicatessen Vlado Ferbežar’s working day begins at three in the morning: after feeding the pigs, he moves on to other tasks on his farm, which spans 4.5 hectares. He was once a successful manager in Austria, but after fifteen years he returned to his hometown of Otok and, in 1988, began breeding Black Slavonian pigs and processing their meat. Today, his pork products carry the “Meat from Croatian Farms” label, a guarantee of quality. Kulen is the flagship product of his family farm, closely followed in excellence by kulenova seka, sausages, hams, bacon, and spreads. He produces them according to an old family recipe, using the finest cuts of meat from pigs raised near oak forests in natural and environmentally friendly conditions. The animals are fed fresh and dried clover, corn, sunflower, barley, wheat, soy, and sunflower seeds. Ferbežar’s enthusiasm was not shaken even by the swine fever outbreak in 2023, which left him without 400 pigs and stopped him selling previously produced goods. Thanks to state compensation, he continued his work and today has 600 pigs on the farm. He has also opened a 300-square-meter tasting room that can accommodate 150 people, where visitors can enjoy handmade kulen and other Ferbežar cured meat delicacies in a pleasant, homely atmosphere.
