2. Peron has been maintaining a high quality of food and service for years and it is one of the favourite gastronomic destinations in continental Istria. The tavern, or rather bistro, as we have repeatedly emphasized, is open, and almost full, all year round. When coming from the direction of Zagreb, it is not far from the exit of the Učka tunnel, so it is convenient to stop for lunch. Attractive pizzas and pastas are always on the menu, but we recommend trying their steak tartare, a delicious meat, exquisitely seasoned and with a spaghetti-like coating of grated butter. The portion is enough for two. Fuži (the local pasta) with grated truffle are always good, but the braised Boškarin (autochthonous beef breed) in red wine sauce with onion, celery and carrots is extraordinary. Served on a corn cream, which is lighter than polenta, three slices of tender, richly flavoured meat were plated up on a purée with dehydrated walnuts. Creative and above all delicious, with a special aroma that we liked. After this filling meal, it was hard to decide on dessert, but we couldn’t resist the strawberries in a forest fruit sauce. Strawberry coulis, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream completed the sweet magic. On the top there was a big, crispy sage chips. 2. Peron is a family restaurant, with a beautiful interior and a cosy terrace, and the friendly owners are always present. It’s no wonder that it is always full, as it is one of the best Istrian bistros, so be sure to book a table.
