Gault&Millau's review 2026

Artičok is a small, lovely restaurant in the very centre of the city near the Riva (the waterfront), with a beautiful terrace on the roof and a pleasant atmosphere. It represents a combination of tradition and modern cuisine, and we are especially glad that it is progressing and that the quality of the food is getting better every year. They are known for a dish prepared with artichokes, broad beans and peas, which still reflect the local spirit in memory of old Dalmatian times. On the other hand, here you will find a meat tartare and a smoked trout that belong to modern gastronomy. The tartare was finely chopped by hand, with the addition of homemade mayonnaise, very tasty and well balanced, just like the smoked trout on a crème fraîche base complemented by trout caviar with parsley emulsion. An excellent starter. We were delighted with the fish fillet. Although it is a white fish, meagre is not among the most glamorous, but it was first-class prepared. The confit fillet was soft and juicy, and the beurre blanc sauce with saffron was superb in appearance, texture and taste. The side dishes of briefly processed locally grown fresh spinach, oyster mushrooms and caramelized cauliflower rounded off the experience. The oyster mushroom isn’t quite the queen of mushrooms either, but in the hands of the chef it became noble in that perfectly composed dish that truly belongs to the category of fine-dining. We should also mention the very good desserts. The Pavlova with raspberry reduction, filleted orange and crispy meringue crust was very good. Great ending to a great lunch that pleasantly surprised us.
