Hidden from the tourist crowds, in the quiet seaside town of Lovrečica near Umag, the restaurant Badi has a long tradition. Known for its authentic flavours and refined local cuisine, today - thanks to the Novo/New generation - it is enriched with a fresh modern approach. The interior, which has remained the same for years, should be refreshed and modernized as well. The summer terrace, surrounded by olive trees, is certainly more attractive. Olives and the salty breeze from the nearby coast create a truly Mediterranean atmosphere. The menu is based on coastal and Istrian ingredients, raised to a Novo/New level with modern techniques and creative combinations that stimulate all the senses. Special attention is paid to the presentation of the dishes. The wine list is ambitious and the head sommelier, Ivan Badurina, who is the owner of the restaurant, serves the guests together with his wife. Among the dishes we tasted, the delicate fish tartare and the chef’s daily creation - pasta with clams - stood out. The highlight of the dinner for the most demanding palates was the fish fillet with truffles. In this case, it was a finely prepared sea bass fillet, with crispy skin and juicy meat. Although generously sliced in front of us, the fresh truffle had an extremely mild flavour, and the truffle sauce did not cover up the delicate taste of the fish. This dish, right from the first bite, conveyed the very essence of this place - where the spirit of the sea meets the heart of Istria. One of the best fish restaurants in this part of Istria, Badi remains an unmissable gourmet destination.
