Since we reviewed the Batak restaurant in the city centre in last year’s guide, this year we decided to check out what their offer on the outskirts looks like, so we decided on Zagreb’s district of Dubrava. Here too we discovered a modern space, beautifully decorated in warm colours, like all the other establishments from their franchise and a friendly staff, while the same menu satisfies all tastes. Batak, which has restaurants in 27 different locations in Zagreb and in 9 other Croatian towns maintains everywhere the same standard. On the menu there are mostly grilled meat dishes and hamburgers, but they always have a sea bass or salmon fillet. The fish is, of course, frozen, but properly grilled and with a delicious side dish of chard and potatoes. We tried the stuffed grilled drumstick and the excellent slices of baked new potatoes. We were pleasantly surprised by the thinly sliced grilled veal liver, which you can rarely get in restaurants. Although the menu always includes their classic dishes, such as mazalice (bread with a spread of grilled minced meat on the top), steak tartare and the pâté of goose liver, as well as ćevapčići, pljeskavice, BBQ pork ribs, BBQ chicken wings and other grilled dishes, the menu changes and the cuisine follows the seasons, so in the fall you can get a delicious pumpkin soup, and in the winter sarma (rolls of sour cabbage leaves filled with minced meat and rice). The waiters are quick and friendly. The selection of desserts is also commendable: lemon tarts, crème brulée, crispy rolls of seasonal fruit and even Choco Dubai and Međimurska gibanica (layered pastry from the region of Međimurje). Batak is a proven place where you will eat well in a pleasant atmosphere, at affordable prices.
