The small restaurant next to the fish market at Zagreb’s Dolac market, with a menu offering simple fish and seafood dishes, made sense from day one – the ingredients are sourced within a fifty -meter radius, and guests can be sure that everything they get on their plate is always fresh. But there are no surprises. Those who regularly go there for a snack or lunch know that they cannot expect any new and creative dishes at Amfora, just as tourists can already sense from the decor of the restaurant that they will get a rudimentary gastronomic experience there. But the atmosphere is fun, the location is excellent. Both the sunny terrace and the gallery in the interior offer a view of the Dolac plateau (where the market was until recently) and the towers of the Cathedral. Amfora serves simple and classic dishes such as fish soups, cod stew, fried scampi and squid, and larger pieces of blue or white fish prepared on a grill. The menu actually depends on the fish on offer at the fish market, the portions are quite generous, and salt, pepper, olive oil and marinade are the main additions to the dishes.
