The story of the suckling pigs masterfully roasted by Jelena and Vedran Rodić began just over two decades ago, when they transformed a former hunting lodge into a restaurant. In the meantime, Klet Europa has become synonymous with the best roast suckling pig in the Zelina region. In their restaurant, with heavy wooden tables and comfortable chairs, you can see people in business suits, tracksuits, and work uniforms alike. Besides spit-roasted suckling pig, whose meat is tender and juicy with perfectly crispy skin, they are also known for their daily lunches. Every day they offer three daily specials, such as beans, tripe, trout and pork belly – at more than friendly prices. Upon request, they prepare veal or lamb under the bell (slow-cooked under a traditional metal dome) with potatoes and vegetables, as well as various grilled meats. Side dishes include bean salad, roasted peppers, potatoes, and spring onions – and one of the reasons everyone praises the dishes lies in their suppliers. All ingredients come from small producers within a 130-kilometer radius of Sveti Ivan Zelina. Their wine selection mainly includes local white wines from the Zelina region – Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Graševina, and bottled Kraljevina from Puhelek Purek winery. The selection of reds, rosés, and dessert wines is somewhat smaller. Guests come not only from Zagreb but also from Varaždin, which has a fast and direct connection to Zelina.
