Bokeria Kitchen & Wine has long held the status of one of the liveliest restaurants in the centre of Split. Located right next to the fish market, it attracts guests from morning until late at night. The interior is spacious and bright, with large glass walls that blur the line between the street and the restaurant. The atmosphere is urban and dynamic. There is also an upper floor available, where guests can enjoy a quieter, more pleasant atmosphere. It is still recommended to reserve a table. The cuisine is contemporary and relies on Mediterranean and international ingredients. The menu, that changes regularly, offers various small dishes ideal for sharing, such as tacos, bombolini, or soparnik (a local savoury flat pie filled with Swiss chard, onions, garlic and olive oil, baked over an open hearth). We tried the Oink tacos – boiled beef leg in salsa served in a homemade tortilla with sauce and pickled vegetables. Apart from the imaginative name, the dish is beautifully served and, most importantly, very tasty and juicy. At Bokeria meat lovers will find what they are looking for. They can try the Oink smash burger, the Iberico skewer, the suckling pig or the lamb shank. For those who prefer fish, there are octopus served with mashed potatoes, black risotto and sea bass fillet. The desserts are attractive from the chocolate combinations to lighter varieties with fruit and creams, but we asked for the tried-and-true paradižot (ile flottante). The personnel are friendly, and the wine list is diverse, with an emphasis on domestic labels, but also an interesting selection of foreign wines. Many are available by the glass, which makes the pairing with dishes easier. Bokeria remains a safe address for a relaxed, but quality gastronomic experience in the very heart of the city.
