Gault&Millau's review 2026

Winery Bolfan Vinski Vrh boasts the best view – along with the restaurant that is part of this hilltop complex above the Zagorje village of Hrašćina. Surrounded by magical nature, cultivated fields, and organic vineyards, the Bolfan klet (small house in Zagorje) is perfect for leisurely weekend lunches that you can later “work off” with a walk through the Zagorje hills. The restaurant presents traditional local cuisine in a modern way, preparing all dishes from seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby family farms and small producers within a 40-kilometer radius. The cooking at Bolfan is excellent: dishes are attractively plated, flavourful and simple. We recommend trying tiblica (a spread made from dried meat served on toasted bread) and their soups, such as Zagorje soup with sausages and sour cream. Among the main courses in winter, the standout is lokoti (smoked pork loin) served with bean cream, braised sauerkraut, and horseradish foam. In summer enjoy fresh or grilled vegetables with different meat. For dessert, there is homemade zlevka (cornbread) with cheese and lemon cream and, of course, baked štrukli (traditional dough with filling). Every dish at Bolfan’s restaurant can be paired with one of their organic wines, which you can also taste without having lunch – simply with cold cuts during a presentation in the wine cellar.
