Gault&Millau's review 2026

On the island of Šipan, in addition to peace, clean sea and wild nature, you can also expect a superb gastronomic experience. Restaurant Bowa, in Vrbova bay not far from Suđurađ, offers island specialties prepared with local ingredients. In a very relaxed atmosphere, you will be able to taste premium delicacies of freshly caught fish, for which the Šare family is famous. A tasting menu is served in luxurious wooden gazebos, while an à la carte lunch is served on the restaurant’s terrace. All prepared vegetables are grown locally and organically. You should try a mix of appetizers: oysters from nearby Mali Ston, tartar and sashimi of tuna and swordfish, fish pate, octopus and grilled swordfish, with zucchini carpaccio. There are some classics like prosciutto, a mix of cow and sheep cheese in olive oil, and salted anchovies on flatbread. The main course, grilled sea bass, is traditionally prepared a la soparnik style side dish with young cheese, rosemary and chard. The wine list is carefully composed of domestic labels, and they also have an excellent selection of international ones. Guests who want a luxury transfer, either from Dubrovnik or the nearby port of Brsečina, have the Colnago 35 yacht owned by the restaurant at their disposal. Reservation is mandatory.
