Gault&Millau's review 2026
Selected
One of the first representatives of the modern wave of Zagreb wine bars, Cheese & wine bar has nurtured the same concept from day one - Croatian wines and local products in the gastronomic part of the offer. A special value of the wine list is its regional breadth: continental Croatia is represented by Graševina by Adžić, Josić, Jakovac and Krauthaker, Istria by Malvasia from the wineries Bastian, Coronica, Bertoša, Benvenuti and Kozlović, Dalmatia is represented by Stina and Nerica with Pošip, while Sauvignon Blanc by Korak, Josić and Puhelek allows you to compare Plešivica, Podunavlje and Zelina vineyards. There are approximately 150 wines on offer, and most of them are available by the glass at a price of 4 to 15 euros for more prestigious labels. Wine is naturally complemented by what the restaurant was named after - cheeses. In addition to homemade cured meat products - prosciutto, pancetta and various sausages - cheeses from Gligora, Buršić, Kumparička and other well-known Croatian producers appear on the platters. The menu also includes small pizzas, the size of bruschetta (Prosciutto, Veggie and Picante), and among the smaller dishes are homemade salmon and cod pâtés and chickpea spread. A particularly interesting part of the offer are gableci, which are served from 11 a.m., at a price of 8 euros. Every day, something different is cooked, for example, breaded or wok chicken, stuffed peppers with puree, grilled squid or hake with chard and potatoes... During the day, the Cheese Bar takes on the character of a neighborhood bistro, although it is located in a very touristy location, a few steps from the main city square.
