Chef's Restaurant
The name of the restaurant located in a beautiful baroque building in the centre of Velika Gorica, is not only reminiscent of a steak. It actually comes from the surname of the first owner of the house from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, the influential noble merchant Čop. The modern interior is dominated by wood, along with the brick walls, this gives warmth to the space divided into three separate parts. The personnel are friendly and attentive. The menu is not too large, a total of 5 cold appetizers, and a dozen attractive main courses, along with several pastas, steaks and desserts. The finely chopped steak tartare, served on a wooden tray with creamy butter, was perfectly seasoned and large enough as an appetizer for two people. Toast and fresh homemade bread were served in beautiful wooden bowls. We continued with the duck breast fillet, two pieces of finely roasted tender meat on a bed of pumpkin cream and beluga lentils. A harmonious combination of flavours and colours. The Zagreb steak, with a side of mashed potatoes and fresh tartare sauce, with crispy crust, golden yellow, and rich in cheese and ham filling melted in our mouths. We also shared a large apple strudel served on a thick vanilla cream. In Chop Old House they pay special attention to the lists of wine and other drinks and they have a separate area for enjoying cigars. They are full on weekends, so it is worth booking a table, and it is commendable that they offer a three-course menu for 30 €. The hedonism of modern bistronomy is their motto and it perfectly fits the place.
