Gault&Millau's review 2026

Rice, curry, lentils and coconut - these are the basic ingredients of Sri Lankan cuisine, which are abundantly used in Curry Bowl, the only Sri Lankan restaurant in Zagreb. Located in the colourful Tkalčićeva Street, since its opening, it has won over not only tourists, but also domestic guests with its authentic flavours and cheerful, unpretentious spirit. The restaurant is run by two brothers, Brian and Clement Senaratne, who you can see every day deftly balancing between the tables. The menu is divided into several thematic units - from Sri Lankan stir-fry combinations and curry dishes to fusion interpretations and street food classics. Their Sri Lankan curry stands out and it is recommended with the traditional Kaha Bath, i.e. yellow rice, while the traditional Kotthu - Sri Lankan street food made from a mixture of spices, eggs, vegetables and Roti tortilla - is equally popular. Among the appetizers, try the creamy Dhal lentil soup served with garlic bread and the Parippu wadai, fried lentil cakes with homemade mint chutney. The authenticity of this restaurant is evidenced by the selection of side dishes, which are found nowhere else but in Sri Lanka – for example, the characteristic Pol Sambol, grated fresh coconut mixed with tomato, lime and traditional spices. Or the tamarind sauce – with a sweet and spicy taste, made from the finest tamarind pulp from Sri Lanka. The selection of drinks is not large, but they pour Sri Lankan beer Lion Beer, serve real Ceylon Earl Grey tea (iced or hot) and make the popular Sri Lankan cocktail from the distilled alcoholic beverage Arrack.
