Chef's Restaurant
Even unannounced guests will always find a place at the restaurant on a picturesque estate right on the edge of Kopački Rit. After all, a simple bench in the courtyard – once the host drapes it with a checkered tablecloth – becomes an inviting table with a view of an old well, windows adorned with traditional Slavonian curtains, and the door of Didin konak, from which a friendly waitress emerges every so often. The platters of food she brings out elicit sighs of delight: crackling pâté with hot, freshly toasted slices of homemade bread; fiš-paprikaš (fish stew); čobanac (Slavonian stew prepared in a cauldron or large pot); game perkelt (stew); veal and lamb shanks; butter-soft rolled veal in roasting juices… The menu also features must-have river fish delicacies, such as catfish perkelt, pike perch in beer batter, smoked carp grilled over an open flame, and fried pike perch with breaded zucchini in its sauce. Didin konak crêpes with forest fruit topping or a lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream make a lovely ending to this gastronomic adventure. Wine lovers will be delighted by the rich wine cellar, which can be toured in the company of the gracious host. All dishes are served on warm plates.
