Gault&Millau's review 2026

Situated in one of the most beautiful locations in Kvarner - on a cliff above Lovran, amidst greenery connecting the sea and forest - this restaurant offers spectacular view of Kvarner Bay. The winding drive to Draga di Lovrana is an introduction to the gastronomic experience that follows. The culinary traditions of Kvarner and Istria merge here, with a focus on fish and seafood, complemented by products from nearby family farms. While meat dishes like lamb shank and pork cheeks are also offered, guests primarily come for the fresh fish, a signature of the owner, the Nikolac fishing family. The restaurant features a tasting approach, with guests often choosing multi-course menus that change with the seasons and chef’s inspiration. Kvarner shrimp are a must-try in various interpretations (grilled, in buzara, or risotto), alongside marinated mazzancolla shrimp. Homemade pastas (with duck ragout or smoked mussels, shrimp, and bottarga) are delicious, as is the beef short rib with tail and teran sauce. The interior is warm, refined, and subtly luxurious, emphasizing comfort and intimacy, with service at a fine dining level. The wine list predominantly features Croatian wine regions, especially Istria and Kvarner, along with international labels. Draga di Lovrana is not a place for a quick meal, but a destination for a culinary experience, celebrations, romantic dinners, or special occasions.
