Gault&Millau's review 2026

Authentic Neretva Valley specialties, views of the Norin River and a warm family atmosphere draw both local and international guests to Đuđa & Mate. Located in the village of Vid, a suburb of Metković and once the Roman town of Narona, the restaurant has preserved the tradition of preparing local dishes from regional ingredients for more than thirty years. The interior and terrace – dominated by wood and stone – create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Among the best-known regional delicacies are eels and frogs, prepared here in several ways. Particularly recommended are frogs sautéed with onions and the famous eel brudet. Another highlight are Neretva gambori, local river prawns served grilled or in buzara sauce. For lovers of traditional cuisine, dishes prepared under the bell – such as lamb, rooster or octopus – are also available, although they must be ordered in advance due to the long cooking time. The dessert selection is simple but satisfying, featuring pancakes and homemade cakes. Portions are generous, prices moderate, and the wine list offers a wide selection of Croatian labels, including the house wine. To complete the experience, guests can take a ride in traditional wooden lađa boats along the Norin River.
