The address “Gorski Raj” (Mountain Paradise) perfectly describes the location of Restaurant Eva – set in the middle of a dense forest, on an elevated spot overlooking Lake Lokve. In front of the authentic Gorski Kotar house there is a large terrace, naturally shaded in summer, while in winter a fire crackles in the fireplace of the spacious main dining room. This is a restaurant frequented by families with children and day-trippers, while for those wishing to extend their stay, several rooms are available. Eva is a family-run restaurant, named after the grandmother of its current owner and chef, Mario Šubat, who – together with his wife Tina – has elevated the cuisine of the Gorski Kotar region to a higher level. The menu features appealing dishes such as game pâté with onion jam and toasted excellent homemade bread, or trout fillet with a hazelnut crust and leek in cream, served with potatoes. The emphasis is on meat dishes – from roast veal to game burgers – but vegetarians are also taken into consideration. The wine list is modest, offering a handful of Croatian classics and highlights from Kvarner wineries, while the rich selection of liqueurs from Gorski Kotar producers deserves special praise. By continuing to refine the technical execution of its dishes and paying greater attention to detail, Eva is well on its way to fully realizing its potential.
