Gault&Millau's review 2026

Fidel Gastro is not located in the centre of Zagreb, but it is easy to get there by car and there is a parking. The restaurant is dominated by a pleasant industrial open space style and is an excellent choice for both a casual date and a business lunch. You enter through the bar, which is part of the restaurant, but functions as a separate place, and leads into a large area where the personnel welcome you and take you to your table. The menu is concise and focused, the offer of appetizers is wide enough and includes both meat and fish dishes. Among the warm appetizers there are some very creative fish plates. The main courses are varied and they also offer a vegetarian option. We opted for the beef carpaccio, beautifully served with porcini cream, Grana Padano shavings and a little balsamic vinegar. The steak tartare, which they prepare in a classic way, is also very good. If you come in autumn, it is definitely worth trying the porcini ragout served with homemade pumpkin gnocchi – the ideal comfort food for the colder months. The service is correct, although there is room for improvement when it comes to the presentation of the food and the wine advice. The wine list includes the most important Croatian varieties, and there is also a solid selection of wines available by the glass. If you are coming during the day, a reservation is definitely recommended.
