Our last visit to this unusual gastronomic haven in the interior of Vis, confirmed that Fields of Grace continues to stand out for its uniqueness and departure from the classic Dalmatian offer. Jakša (Jack) Kivela, after a rich international career in Australia and Hong Kong, today runs with his wife Fung Li, a small restaurant nestled in the middle of his vineyard, orchard and Mediterranean garden open only for dinner. The rule still applies – there is no menu, the dinner is prepared only for reserved guests and is based on Jakša’s inspiration. This year’s menu was a perfect combination of Asian fusion cuisine with an emphasis on southern Chinese recipes. Three courses and dessert were accompanied by their wines, among which the Vugava stood out in particular, while tasting the Graševina from Vis is always a real surprise. Dumplings, fish curry and prawns alternated on the plates, and the evening was rounded off with a simple but irresistible dessert with fruit from their garden. Each dish was accompanied by explanations from the host, and the conversation about travels and the gastronomy of Asia gave the evening an additional warmth and personal touch. What still makes this place special is not just the food – it’s the homely atmosphere, the peace of the vineyards, and the feeling of being completely outside of mass tourism for a moment. This year, the impression is even stronger: Jakša’s and Fung Li’s restaurant confirms that Vis hides a gastronomic gem for those looking for an intimate, authentic and different experience.
