Ficlek is a modern inn, located in the very centre of Zagreb under the most famous Zagreb market, Dolac. It has been consistently nurturing a clear concept for years – preserving and presenting the authentic Zagreb cuisine. Its intention is to offer Zagreb residents a taste of famous local dishes, and to introduce tourists to the original recipes that have shaped the local gastronomic tradition. Over the years, they have maintained consistent quality, and although the menu changes only slightly, it remains faithful to what guests recognize them for. The menu regularly includes ajngemahtec (chicken and vegetables soup), tafelspitz (boiled beef in a soup), liver, turkey with mlinci (boiled pieces of dry flat bread served with roasted meat) and pasta with cabbage, or seasonal dishes such as đuveč (stew of rice, vegetables and meat), stuffed peppers or sarma (stuffed sour cabbage leaves). And they are all excellent. Desserts are dominated by local classics such as strudel, pumpkin pie and dumplings with seasonal fruit, as well as something that can rarely be found in Zagreb today, which is kaiserschmarn – a light and fluffy pancake broken into smaller pieces, served with jam or chocolate. The wine list includes several house wines from the Zagreb area. The restaurant space is small but cosy, the terrace in the pedestrian zone is a great choice for warm days, but reservations are definitely recommended at any time of the year. If you’re looking for a place where you can taste authentic Zagreb dishes in the original spirit, Ficlek is definitely worth a visit.
