Gault&Millau's review 2026

The famous seafood restaurant in Veli Lošinj, Gostionica Marina has been run by the Vidas family for over 40 years. Located opposite the baroque church, the restaurant features a large seaside terrace that is always full during summer, while seating inside is easier to find. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a poster showcasing over 60 Mediterranean fish species, many of which are available on the daily menu. The kitchen follows a simple and traditional approach: raw, salted, grilled, or in brudet, always complemented by premium local olive oil and an abundance of aromatic island herbs. Daily catch is impressive: Scorpionfish, John Dory, Monkfish, Grouper, Scampi, Lobsters, Adriatic squids…Menu highlights are classic seafood appetizers: marinated anchovies and sardines, pickled sea fennel, Crab salad, Scallops, Seafood risotto, Mussels in buzara sauce. Expertly grilled Scorpionfish and dusky grouper served with creamy chard and boiled potatoes as well as butter-sautéed young peas is a tasty example of simplicity. We recommend firm but juicy and sweet grilled lobster or boiled prepared with spaghetti in rich tomato sauce. The restaurant also offers island lamb, game, and poultry dishes, all perfectly paired with a good glass of wine, prompt and professional service, and breathtaking sea views.
