Located on the organic farm on the edge of Kopački Rit, the Primitivo excursion site at rural estate Čudesna šuma owned by the Romulić family is a magical place in the forest of Bilje. This is not a classic restaurant. They cook for groups of at least 10 people. So, if you want to share a unique gastronomic experience with friends – this is the right place. Just make sure to book in advance and you will enjoy the food grown according to the principles of biodynamics. Mario Romulić is a world-renowned photographer and eco-activist. Since he stopped photographing four years ago, he has dedicated himself to Čudesna šuma together with his twin sons. In raised garden beds they plant tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, eggplants and lettuce. They make sweet blackberry vinegar, dry spices, produce juices, jams, preserves and honey. They have a greenhouse for seedlings, a pond, a compost heap and a sawmill. Only the meat comes from small organic producers. An oak house, Primitivo, they built by their hands. The interior blends rustic and simple design, the food is served on beautiful ceramic plates handmade by OPG Shumska Ceramics. The dishes are a special story. They prepare meat on a mobile South American grill, in tandoor ovens and on a spit, simmer it in clay and cast-iron pots, they serve smoked fish, and bake sourdough bread. When done, the meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. Cooking for hours, everything is old-school, primordial and authentic, a fantastic atmosphere, wonderful hosts, lots of fire, flavours and aromas, food as it once was. In short – Primitivo is the luxury of the new age.
