Gault&Millau's review 2026

The muted colours of the interior of the Japanese restaurant Takenoko, in the central Preradovićeva Street, look elegant. The dominant colour is black, which is enlivened by wooden tables and armchairs in slightly lighter shades. The restaurant extends through several spaces, from the first hall with tables, then a long bar, then tables again, and finally, in front of the kitchen, which can be seen behind a glass partition, there is a large chef’s table, also enclosed by a glass partition. You can come here in the evening for a drink. The wine list is extremely rich with the best Croatian and foreign labels, the list of other drinks is just as long, and there are also numerous cocktails that have more and more fans, especially among the younger crowd. The personnel are friendly and professional. The menu includes Japanese classics and the attractive Teppanyaki menus. You can choose from beef, lamb, prawns, lobster or Wagyu beef. Meat, prawns and lobster as well as the other ingredients are grilled on a hot plate in the middle of the table, in front of you. Teppanyaki should be ordered a day in advance. We started with the famous Thai Tom Yam Kung soup, hot and sour just right, but not enough balanced flavours. The chef’s choice sashimi was of top quality. Pieces of various fish, from sea bass to tuna and salmon, thinly sliced scallops and prawns were bursting with freshness. The dessert of three types of Japanese mocha filled with vanilla and chocolate ice cream was served on ice with raspberry and mango coulis.
