The restaurant Tekka, located in Zagreb’s business district, in our opinion is the best Japanese restaurant in the city. On the ground floor of a modern building, decorated in a minimalist style, it is not too big, and the space includes a large bar behind which they prepare the sushi and serve the dishes from the back kitchen. Tekka primarily differs from the others because of its first-class ingredients and a precise execution of the dishes. In addition to the preparation, it is worth highlighting the attractive presentation on plates that belongs to the rank of haute gastronomy. The menu changes regularly, and in addition to the traditional offer of sushi, sashimi and other specialties, Tekka always offers some surprises. So you can get tuna tartare with goat cheese for an appetizer or veal fillet with miso sauce and cuttlefish crumble for a main course. After an excellent mini ramen with chicken, a hearty flavourful soup with wheat flour noodles, vegetables and pieces of chicken, we tried their gyoza filled with veal and spring onions with ginger. They were crispy, but at the same time soft with a precisely seasoned filling. We also ordered the Tokyo sushi menu, 7 different types of nigiri and hosomaki rolls with tuna and salmon. With their masterfully prepared rice, which does not separate and is not mushy and the fine pieces of fresh fish, octopus and cuttlefish, the nigiri won us over again. Just like the ebi tempura with sweet and spicy sauce that we consider to be the best in the city. With a crispy rice flour crust, the large juicy tiger prawns always delight us with their mild taste and firm texture. The personnel at Tekka is extremely professional and friendly, and their wine list offers the best Croatian and international wines, as well as champagne. They usually serve them by the glass.
