Gault&Millau's review 2026

Kaštil Slanica is a family restaurant located on the walls of a medieval salt trading post, in the emerald green surroundings of the Cetina canyon. It is only four kilometres far from Omiš, and it can be reached by excursion boat, kayak or car. Guests are provided with berths and parking. The restaurant has a large terrace, and the proximity of the Cetina River gives the space an exclusive and intimate experience. There is also a children’s playground in the shape of a pirate ship, although without much shade. The service is professional, very friendly and polite. Kaštil Slanica honours the traditional cuisine of Dalmatia and the Dalmatian hinterland, along with some more modern dishes; the offer includes sea and river fish dishes and specialties such as the daily available soparnik (a local savoury flat pie filled with Swiss chard, onions, garlic and olive oil, baked over an open hearth). The clear meat soup with root vegetables, egg and grated hard sheep’s cheese was excellent - harmonious, light and refreshing, even on hot summer days. We also tried the Dolce Garbo - lamb offal in a sweet and sour sauce, served with polenta. This is an excellent dish, rich in flavour that we highly recommend. Grandma Višnja’s pašticada, the braised beef in a thick sauce, with homemade gnocchi was also delicious, but it definitely deserved a more attractive presentation. The fig cheesecake that we had at the end is a seasonal and very tasty dessert. Kaštil Slanica combines the historic setting, the impressive nature and the local cuisine — and is definitely worth a visit.
