With his menu, Damir Čalić, the chef and owner of this bistro in the centre of Stari Grad, pays homage to authentic Dalmatian cuisine. Guests praise his pašticada (braised beef stew), which is bursting with luxurious flavours, as well as grilled octopus. Seafood is on offer every day, but the menu is always different – depending on what the fishermen deliver to him (sardines, smelt, white fish, scampi). For breakfast, he offers a dozen types of omelettes. In winter the most popular dishes are beans with sausages, a beef tongue in sauce and tripe. The place is known for his excellent homemade pasta. There are always at least two desserts on offer, and if you want to try an authentic Hvar dessert, order the lavender cake. Delicious, simple and fresh dishes at affordable prices, solid local wine and a good atmosphere are the main reasons why you must book a table in the summer.
