Gault&Millau's review 2026

Located on the riverside promenade along the Drava, the most attractive part of the Kod Javora restaurant is its glass-enclosed terrace, which offers views of the river. The menu is based on Slavonian specialties: grilled meats, veal cooked under the bell, stuffed pork tenderloin in a kaymak sauce with homemade gnocchi, and dishes made from fresh freshwater fish – mainly carp, pike-perch, and catfish. As a starter, we recommend breaded or grilled frog legs, served with homemade tartare sauce and a generous portion of crispy potatoes. Addition to the menu is pike-perch with cranberries and almonds in a cream sauce – a rich, creamy dish in which the delicate flesh of the river fish pairs beautifully with the sweet-and-sour notes of the berries. Among the fish classics are pike-perch Orly, prepared for two people, and catfish perkelt (stew), offered in spicy, medium-spicy, and mild versions, served alongside traditional noodles with cheese and lightly fried bacon. In addition to classic pancakes with walnuts or chocolate, you can finish your meal with a seasonal dessert – for example, homemade chestnut purée in autumn. The restaurant offers a solid selection of fruit brandies and local wines, available both by the glass and by the bottle.
