Gault&Millau's review 2026

Overlooking the Hvar harbour, the yachts and the small boats, the restaurant Kod Kapetana is located on the Hvar promenade that continues on the Loggia side, known as Fabrika. One of the oldest restaurants in Hvar has not changed its appearance for years. The terrace with wooden tables and chairs is very pleasant, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The menu has changed slightly to adapt to the demands of tourists, so in addition to traditional Dalmatian cuisine, you can also find fresh beetroot carpaccio, some occasional vegetarian dish, and even vegan desserts. They even serve the breakfast, as this has become a trend among the younger visitors to Hvar. For lunch or dinner, you will always find seafood and pasta, as well as fish from the daily offer. Along with red scorpion fish and sea bass, lobsters and scampi can also be displayed on the ice counter in front of the restaurant. The fish is most often prepared grilled, but their brodetto, served with polenta, is excellent. Ours was made from a red scorpion fish and seafood, spicy and tasty, and we enjoyed the strong flavours of the sea. Kod Kapetana also offers classic meat dishes and you can get quality grilled steaks. During the high summer season the service is a bit slow. Given the attractive and busy location, it is recommended to reserve a table.
