Gault&Millau's review 2026

Despite its popularity with visitors, Konoba Adio Mare remains a favourite among locals – often the clearest sign of quality. Operating continuously since 1974 and now run by the third generation of the same family, it is one of the most enduring restaurants on the island of Korčula. Located within the stone walls of the old town, the restaurant unfolds across three distinctive spaces: an intimate dining room centred around an open kitchen and charcoal grill, a second room reminiscent of a traditional shipbuilder’s workshop, and a terrace overlooking the small Church of St Peter, St Mark’s Cathedral and the reputed birthplace of Marco Polo. The menu follows the rhythm of the sea and the seasons. Fresh fish and seafood dominate, while grilled octopus is a standout dish, lightly smoky and perfectly tender, served simply with olive oil, lemon and traditional sides such as Swiss chard or roasted vegetables. Homemade pastas with lobster, shrimp or fish ragout are also excellent, as is their inventive seafood-filled burek. The wine list celebrates Korčula’s indigenous varieties, including Pošip, Grk, Rukatac, Crljenak and Plavac Mali.
