Gault&Millau's review 2026

Konoba Albert, set in the picturesque bay of Zavalatica in the village of Čara on the island of Korčula, is a true expression of simple, authentic Dalmatian cuisine and hospitality. Its founder and head chef, Albert Marelić, bases the menu primarily on fresh seafood, complemented by a few carefully chosen meat dishes. Grilled dishes take center stage, especially fish such as John Dory, monkfish, and sea bream. Homemade pasta with seafood is also excellent, while a must-try local specialty is the handmade macaroni, served with a rich meat sauce. The wine list focuses mainly on local varieties, particularly Pošip and Plavac Mali from the family’s own Albert Winery. The nearby Čara field is in fact the most important vineyard area for the Pošip grape on Korčula. The tavern itself is designed in traditional Dalmatian style and blends harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Its greatest asset, however, is the terrace, which seems to hover above the sea and offers sweeping views of the entire bay. Guests often highlight this terrace as an essential part of the experience – while waiting for their meal, they can simply walk down a few steps and swim in the crystal-clear water. Another reason for Konoba Albert’s popularity is the host’s personal approach: Marelić is often involved in preparing the dishes and enjoys interacting with guests, offering friendly service and personal recommendations.
