Chef's Restaurant
Alla Beccaccia is like a hidden oasis among the houses in a residential area of Valbandon, Fažana. When you drive through the gate of the hotel you find yourself in a beautiful garden with terracotta coloured houses surrounding the pool. The restaurant is in a separate house among olive trees on one side of the well-kept lawn. Entering the restaurant, you feel as if you are in a hunting lodge. The open fireplace and the rustic style of the decoration give a hint that the specialty of the house is game and meat. Indeed, the menu is dominated by a variety of meat dishes from wild boar, pheasant and venison to lamb and Boškarin beef (the autochthonous Istrian breed). But you also find a number of other traditional Istrian dishes such as pasta with white truffles and skuta (kind of ricotta) cheese. We were delighted by the tongue of Boškarin alla tonnata that we chose as a starter. Similar to the Italian vitello tonnato (cold sliced veal in tuna sauce), but more tasteful, prepared with a cold sauce made of tuna, anchovies and cappers, it was really excellent. Our main dish, the Istrian fuži (local kind of pasta) with the ragout of Boškarin, a perfectly seasoned thick sauce was also delicious. The house wine, a Franc Arman cuvée of merlot, teran and cabernet sauvignon, was a perfect pairing for our meal. The home-made gluten free bread also deserves to be mentioned. The quality of the food and wine, the welcoming atmosphere and the efficient and friendly service made our visit very pleasant.
