Gault&Millau's review 2026

On the way from the mainland to Lošinj, Konoba Mare is a great place for a break and refreshment just before the bridge connecting Cres and Lošinj. It is almost hidden within the walls of the historic town of Osor, and the ambiance is as pleasant as the gastronomic offer. On each of the three terraces you can sit in the natural shade of bougainvillea and vines. The menu has perhaps a dozen dishes, prepared using ingredients from Kvarner and Istria, and the only spices are salt, pepper, herbs and mascarpone. Their Mara salad is ideal for summer refreshment (seasonal ‘greens’ are mixed with fresh and dried fruit, honey, lemon juice, nuts and fresh goat cheese). Their signature dish is lamb ‘umido ‘ - a succulent meal of young Cres lamb cooked for four hours in its own juice, without added fat. Equally rich in flavor are the goulash of boškarin and deer, and the offer of seafood specialties depends on what the restaurant owner has ‘caught’ that morning from local fishermen. Don’t miss Kvarner scampi, we recommend them in the version of white brudet. Their poppy seeds cake is delicious and simple, but the queen of desserts is their Malvasia cake! The wine list also includes selected top-quality domestic wines - with an emphasis on the Istrian region.
