Tavern

Gault&Millau's review 2026

A legendary tavern in the city centre, hidden in a small street, offers an unforgettable experience of a traditional meal called marenda (sort of brunch). On the small square in front of the tavern, there are only a few tables and benches. Just like it was in ancient times. What is new is another additional room on the same street in case of bad weather. To arrive at Marenda on time, you should arrive early and not wait for lunch, but for brunch, gablec or marenda. The offer of ready-made meals includes two dishes a day, which are alternated in a fixed order depending on the day of the week. For example, on Mondays there is pasta with beans and lamb with green peas, on Fridays cod or black cuttlefish orzo. However, if you are late, you will not be disappointed. The offer always includes fried smelt, fried Adriatic squid or just a sandwich with prosciutto, cheese or salted sardines. A glass of red or white local wine is a must with this meal. The special charm of this tavern is the locals who are never in too much of a hurry, and sometimes when a group gathers, you can enjoy a real Dalmatian song.
