Gault&Millau's review 2026

Many say this tavern is one of the places that “best describes the island of Rab.” Hidden from tourist crowds, it is located in a narrow street in the old town and is a favorite among locals, some local politicians, and well-informed visitors. The menu reflects the combination of sea and land typical for Island of Rab, offering both fish specialties and traditionally prepared meat dishes. The Vidas family, who have run the business for decades, catch their own fish and regularly include the daily catch on the menu. A highly recommended dish is dried octopus with eggs: the octopus is dried in the bora wind, which intensifies its flavor. Signature dishes are those prepared “under the bell” (peka), such as lamb and octopus, slow-cooked under an iron lid covered with embers, giving them an authentic, home-style aroma. In addition to lamb, the menu includes homemade sausages and other grilled meats prepared simply. For dessert, the traditional Rab cake - made with almonds and maraschino - is highly recommended. Good food, friendly staff, and a fair price-quality ratio make this tavern very popular.
