Gault&Millau's review 2026

The location of Konoba Ugor, in a quieter residential part of Rijeka, has shaped its identity: it is a place primarily visited by locals and connoisseurs of fish cuisine, rather than an accidental passerby. Ugor has regular guests throughout the year, as it builds its reputation on quality. The owners are long-time fishermen, which defines the restaurant’s concept from catch to plate, placing it among so-called “fishermen’s taverns,” where the kitchen is an extension of their primary activity. The menu is based on the daily catch, so the food offered depends on the season and fishing skills. Guests simply choose how they want their fish and seafood prepared: cuttlefish in salad or risotto, monkfish, sea bass, and sea bream from the oven or grill, fresh fish carpaccio, fried sand smelts, sardines, anchovies, cuttlefish ragout with pljukanci, or marinated shrimp. Their creamy risottos, rich in sea flavor, are highly recommended. In addition to fish, local ingredients and wines from Kvarner and Istria are offered, completing the “local gastronomy” circle. Among desserts, fritule are their signature, along with chocolate lava cake and figs in prošek with mascarpone. The interior is rustic, evoking seaside life, and in warmer months, the terrace offers a cozy neighborhood tavern atmosphere.
