Gault&Millau's review 2026

In the center of Fužine, near Bajer lake and mountain forest trails, Konoba Volta is pleasant to sit on its terrace, but most of the year the rustic interior keeps you warm. The relaxed atmosphere is enhanced by the cheerful, professional staff who present the menu in detail. It is based on game meat dishes, which are not uncommon in Gorski Kotar, and Volta is well connected with the local hunting society. The menu also offers mushroom and vegetable dishes that will satisfy vegetarians. For starters, we recommend a selection of game sausages and prosciutto, homemade bacon, local Škripavac cheese, cottage cheese with pumpkin seed oil, or excellent deer carpaccio seasoned with flower of salt and olive oil with a few drops of lemon juice. The creamy soup of chanterelles, porcini and oyster mushrooms, thick and fragrant, is rich in flavor. Among the house specialties, we tried the deer ribs baked in a clay oven, juicy and tender, full of the aroma of herbs, served with baked potatoes and horseradish sauce, which gives the dish a mild spiciness and freshness. We also recommend the young wild boar baked in a clay oven with peasant potatoes and a delicious sauce with bacon and mushrooms. Homemade cottage cheese with chestnut honey and walnuts is an excellent choice for the end of the meal.
