Gault&Millau's review2026
Konoba Vrilo lies beside the source of the Norin River, just a short drive from Metković toward the Bosnian border. The tavern is decorated in a traditional Dalmatian style with local motifs such as fishing traps, wooden boats and the symbolic frog – a nod to the culinary heritage of the Neretva region. Guests come throughout the year for traditional specialties, particularly eel and frog dishes. Frogs stewed with onions are especially delicious, served with homemade bread baked under the bell and perfect for dipping into the sweet, savoury sauce. Frogs also appear breaded, in risotto or in a spicy traditional brudet combined with eel. Eel – one of the valley’s most prized delicacies – is also roasted on a spit and served with Swiss chard, potatoes or seasonal vegetables. The menu includes river prawns prepared buzara-style or grilled, along with seafood risotto and octopus under the bell. Meat lovers will find grilled steak or lamb cooked under the bell, while desserts typically include pancakes or a cake of the day. Local wines from nearby vineyards complete the meal beautifully.
