Koraćeva kuća may best be described as a love letter to tradition expressed through food. About thirty minutes from Dubrovnik, in the Konavle village of Gruda, stands a 300-year-old estate where the restaurant’s menu is based largely on products grown in its own garden. Gruda itself is a peaceful oasis at the foot of Mount Sniježnica, long known for its excellent food and riverside restaurants along the Ljuta River. Since 2011 the Mihatović family has continued that tradition here. The rustic courtyard, surrounded by stone houses that also offer accommodation, provides the perfect setting for enjoying dishes inspired by traditional recipes with subtle modern twist. Guests praise the gnocchi with sage and prosciutto, tempura sage leaves, gnocchi with herb pesto, lamb or veal slow-cooked under the peka, and octopus prepared under the bell or grilled. In summer, zucchini and peppers from the garden appear grilled and paired with fruits or other vegetables. Platters of local cheeses, prosciutto and bruschetta accompany the meal. The menu changes with the seasons and available ingredients. Koraćeva kuća is also a popular venue for weddings and celebrations, particularly among couples from the UK.
