Gault&Millau's review 2026

The boutique hotel Mali Raj is located right on the coast in little town Ičići, so sitting on the restaurant terrace gives you the feeling of floating above the sea. The same impression is created by the minimalist, glass-enclosed interior. The terrace, as the restaurant’s main asset, emphasizes its Mediterranean character and turns every meal into a special experience. The menu is inspired by traditional Kvarner cuisine but interpreted in a contemporary way. Fish specialties stand out, accompanied by a carefully selected wine list. A meal can begin with marinated octopus enhanced with Mediterranean spices and olive oil. There is a wide selection of risottos and pasta dishes, featuring seafood, scampi, and other local highlights as well as bruschetta with anchovies or Istrian prosciutto. Fish is categorized as “premium” and “noble,” prepared either grilled or in creative sauces, such as orange or white wine. Meat dishes include rump steak, beef fillet, lamb chops, pork ombolo, or chicken fillet. Duck breast with celery purée and caramelized peach represents a more modern and creative Mediterranean approach. Attention to clean flavours and aesthetic presentation, along with good service, makes Mali Raj a recognizable destination for lovers of fine dining and relaxed elegance.
