Gault&Millau's review 2026

Konoba Malo Selo is a charming tavern not far from Buje. This is a place that preserves the spirit of the traditional Istrian cuisine and to which we always return with pleasure. The guests love the interior, warm and homely, with stone walls, wooden tables and a fireplace that gives to the space a special atmosphere. The tavern is run by the Marušić family, and is known for its simple, honest cuisine based on local ingredients. The menu includes classic Istrian dishes: homemade platters with cured meats and cheese, pljukanci (local kind of pasta) and ravioli with truffles and mushrooms, maneštra, fuži (local kind of pasta) in various sauces, excellent homemade gnocchi with truffles, as well as various meat dishes baked on the hearth. As always, all the dishes met our expectations, prepared without virtuoso culinary techniques but with great care and love. The staff are friendly and will pay attention to you throughout the meal. You don’t have to wait long for the food. It arrives warm and fragrant on the table. The wine selection is simple but correct, as is the house wine that we tasted. Desserts are not strictly traditional, but still in the spirit of the Mediterranean, such as crème brûlée and panna cotta, which nicely round off the meal. Prices are realistic for the quantity and quality of the meal. It is advisable to reserve a table, as the tavern is often full.
