Gault&Millau's review 2026

Mario is one of our favourite restaurants in Rogoznica, right on the coast. In good weather, the tables placed beautifully by the sea provide a special atmosphere, and in case of bad weather, it is nice to sit inside, at the tables upstairs, in the old stone house decorated with coastal details. The restaurant offers meat and seafood specialties made from first-class ingredients. This year they have something new on the menu: dishes marked as Eat local, namely the famous Dalmatian pašticada with homemade gnocchi, the Arambašići (sour cabbage leaves filled with meat) and Morska teća (Sea pot) with white fish, prawns, mussels, clams in tomato sauce and polenta. The friendly waiter welcomed us with fish pâté and homemade black bread with cuttlefish ink and homemade olive oil. This time we decided on the fish menu. We started with grilled scampi, large, fresh and first-class quality. The entire daily offer of fresh fish was impressive. We decided on a slightly different version of the white fish fillet (sea bass) in a prawn sauce with polenta. The nicely spiced prawns sauce went well with the sea bass. Instead of a cake, we ordered the vanilla ice cream with olive oil and fried almonds, which turned out to be a great combination. At Mario we always choose the local Babić wine, which has not disappointed us this time either. We will return regularly to this place because of the pleasant atmosphere, the friendly personnel and the excellent fresh ingredients prepared in a honest way.
