Gault&Millau's review 2026

The modern Japanese restaurant Matsunoki, in the luxurious Bellevue Hotel in Čikat Bay, is a very successful blend of traditional Japanese cuisine, fresh Mediterranean ingredients, and the technical execution of chef Orhan Cakiroglu. Originally from Turkey, the chef mastered his knowledge and skills in Japanese cooking techniques in prestigious restaurants Zuma and Hakkasan. Wild Adriatic tuna, sea bass, crab and squid, and locally grown ingredients inspire him for unusual gastronomic experiences. His selection of nigiri and sashimi, sea bream and lobster ceviche in ponzu butter, juicy shrimp in perfect tempura, gyoza, ramen, and sauces with refined flavors not only attract guests staying at the hotel, but also come to Matsunoki for them. His attractive appetizers – exquisitely seasoned Adriatic tuna akami steak tartare with ponzu sauce, crispy beef croquettes and juicy gyoza with wagyu beef – are perfect snacks for dinner in an elegant setting, with a refined wine selection that will complete the experience. All dishes are particularly beautifully presented, surgically filleted, all textures come to the fore, a real pleasure for the eye and palate. The experience is completed by refreshing desserts - especially those composed of yuzu yogurt because the chef masterfully combines it with other ingredients. You should not miss the Japanese petit - four which will round off the special enjoyment of light dishes with rich textures performed by a true master of Japanese cuisine, in a fantastic setting.
