Gault&Millau's review 2026

Japanese cuisine lovers know that at Nami Sushi they will find dishes that are as close as possible to the originals. The reason is Motohiko Mochizuki, one of the best Japanese chefs in Croatia, who leads the restaurant’s kitchen and ensures the authenticity of dishes. Nami Sushi is located on Opatija’s main street and is easily accessible by car or on foot from nearby hotels. The restaurant consistently combines local ingredients with Japanese recipes, offering unique interpretations of certain dishes from the Croatian restaurant scene – such as Adriatic tuna tartare with mildly spicy sriracha sauce, caviar, pine nuts, and homemade rice chips. Buns, the original Asian steamed rolls, are available not only in the classic meat version but also in a seafood variation, filled with fried shrimp, root vegetable namasu, and Ebi chili sauce. The sushi is always superb, prepared from the freshest ingredients, and can be ordered by piece or as a chef’s selection mix. Among the desserts, the Japanese Dorayaki pancakes stand out, filled with anko paste made from azuki beans and served with a scoop of homemade matcha ice cream. At Nami, guests also benefit from the attentive presence of the restaurant manager and his friendly, professional team.
