Chef's Restaurant
Located in the passage between Ilica 33 and Varšavska Street, the Nuré restaurant reveals its philosophy by its very name. Created by combining the words nouveau (nu) and re-start (ré), it symbolizes a new beginning imbued with French influences. There are only three people behind the project. The manager and waitress has been living in Zagreb for years, while her sister and her fiancé work in the kitchen. The menu consists of nine appetizers, four main courses and three desserts, such as burrata with fennel jam, Adriatic squid with guacamole, chicken with ginseng sauce, black Slavonian pig with kimchi salad and granita. From the appetizers, we tried steak tartare with Korean gochujang paste, pickled red onion, egg yolk and nashi pear, served in nori seaweed chips. The meat was precisely seasoned, and the fermented paste brought it sweet and sour tones and measured spiciness. For the main course, we received lamb chops, a classic of French bistros, with mashed potatoes, roasted peppers, and harissa and green goddess sauce. The lamb was excellently prepared: with a browned crust on the outside, and juicy, pink and soft on the inside. The choco mousse with dark chocolate, crumble, candied orange and hazelnut was intense, but it lacked a fresher component that would soften the dominance of chocolate. The service is friendly, the prices are moderate, and the wine list is diverse. As many as 16 wines are served by the glass, which surpasses even much larger restaurants. The space is small and has only four tables, so reservation is recommended.
