While the Game of Thrones plays out within the walls of the Old Town, on Lapad creative games with Mediterranean flavors are taking place at Pantarul. The restaurant is a favorite of local guests who don’t seek a “table with a view” but rather pleasure and inspiration on the plate. It’s hard to find a better recommendation for local specialties carried out in an innovative and thoughtful way. Their philosophy rests on respect for local ingredients and seasonality, while tradition is honored only by quality. Fresh fish and ingredients from small producers from the Dubrovnik hinterland give every dish a clear local note. We suggest starting the meal with tuna tartare presented in a charmingly rustic style. Coarsely chopped pieces of fresh tuna, seasoned with homemade mayonnaise with capers and a discreet addition of red onion, paired with fresh ricotta instead of butter, offer a new taste experience of a familiar dish. Even if you are not vegetarian you will enjoy an outstanding rendition of a delicate vegetable risotto with sun-dried tomatoes, whose velvety creaminess is given by mascarpone. On the other hand, slowly braised beef cheeks, with their depth of flavor, invigorate all the senses. We enjoyed a creative gluten-free sweet: a carob sponge glazed with white chocolate, accompanied by a poached pear in vanilla sauce. The restaurant interior is simple, warm and measured; the staff are friendly and unobtrusive, and the atmosphere encourages relaxed lingering and sharing food at the table. The motto of this restaurant – like at home – can be trusted.
