Chef's Restaurant
In the central position of the Vis waterfront, the old fish market (Peškarija in Dalmatian), which has not been in full operation for a long time, has been given a new purpose. Attractively decorated, with full respect of the established tradition it has retained the old stone tables of the fish market, the so-called banak, as a counter for eating. The restaurant Peškarija 1911 has quickly become one of the main gastronomic attractions of the town of Vis. The unique joint seating of the guests at the central table, the banak, creates a special and relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers exclusively seafood dishes, a modern and imaginative interpretation of the dishes of this region, with several hot and cold appetizers and main courses. Peškarija is run by the Linčir family and one of them is Toni, who is among the main fishermen of the island of Vis. They mainly offer blue fish caught in the waters of Vis, which Toni mostly catches with his trawl. They give a multi-layered and imaginative presentation to the dishes with anchovies, cuttlefish, monkfish and mullet. As for wine, they offer a selection of the best Vis wines and it is also possible to try the first Vis sparkling wine. Our recommendation and room for further progress is a more cautious use of Grana Padano cheese with seafood and an additional tribute to the traditional dishes of the island of Vis and the old fish market itself. The new restaurant enters the guide with 2 Gault&Millau toques, which is a precedent, but Peškarija has shown that, in addition to the great initiative of revalorizing an abandoned local space, it also offers excellent cuisine. We believe that they will continue in that direction.
