Gault&Millau's review 2026

Pimpinella is a cult Split tavern, simply decorated, on a side street, not far from the old town, with only about twenty tables and an atmosphere in which regulars guests feel comfortable, and visitors quickly become at home. Among the guests you can often see sports and entertainment stars, local politicians, doctors and lawyers, but also salespeople from the nearby shops. The food is good and the prices are moderate, from a very good barbecue and small fish dishes to serious fish and seafood. That’s why the restaurant is always full, so a reservation is mandatory. The waiters have the list of the daily dishes on small pieces of paper, but most of the food quickly disappears at lunchtime. The boiled veal, the slow-cooked beef cheeks in sauce, the small fried fish or prawns are all delicious. The buzara of mixed shells is very tasty and the sauce smells of sea, herbs and wine. The black risotto is creamy and rich with lovely pieces of cuttlefish, enough as an appetizer for three people or as a main course for a hungry mouth. The fresh fish is displayed in the refrigerator, so the guests can choose what the excellent grill master will prepare for them. We chose a nice dentex that arrived quickly on the table. It was succulent especially with a little olive oil and accompanied by a side dish of boiled Swiss chard and potatoes. Their home wine is more than decent.
