Gault&Millau's review 2026

In the old town of Vis, in the quiet Kut, there is Pojoda: a restaurant that has been nurturing quality and authenticity for decades. The name comes from the Dalmatian word for an enclosed garden, and this is exactly the space that makes up its heart: a hidden terrace surrounded by stone walls, where in the summer you can dine under the open sky and in the atmosphere of some bygone era. The ambiance exudes the simple elegance of old Dalmatia, while the smells from the kitchen make it clear that the emphasis is on tradition and top-quality ingredients. Pojoda is open all year round (from 6.00 pm) and relies on local producers and the fresh daily catch, which is why the menu changes, but always remains faithful to the sea and island cuisine. For a starter, choose tuna tartare, salad or octopus meatballs. Then there is always fresh grilled fish (ask the waiter for a recommendation), precisely cooked and served with modest side dishes that do not distract from the main star of the plate. The pasta with lobster, rich in sauce, with the addition of olive oil and Vis spices, and full of sea flavour, deserves special attention, as does the risotto with scampi, creamy and aromatic. The offer occasionally includes traditional dishes such as brodetto or pasta with beans in a seafood style, which best describe the cuisine that was once cooked in island homes. To end the fantastic meal, a classic Vis dessert: the inevitable carob and chocolate cake. The wine list relies on Croatian varieties, with a special emphasis on the local Vugava and Plavac, carefully selected to accompany the flavours of the sea. The friendliness and knowledge of the staff are also on a high level. Pojoda is one of the most appreciated gastronomic destinations on Vis. It is necessary to reserve a table days in advance, especially during the season.
