Remarkable Restaurant
Feta velikog svježeg gofa koji je toga jutra stigao u restoranPuntulina enchants us every time with its unique location, on the steep cliffs of Rovinj, overlooking the islet of S. Katarina. If the weather permits, be sure to reserve a table on one of the smaller terraces that descend towards the sea. You will enjoy the sunlight, the blue of the sea and the seagulls, although you have to be careful not to let them get too close because they will steal the food from your plate! One of the most attractive restaurants in Rovinj is owned by the legendary family Pellizzer that has 3 other restaurants in Rovinj. It is always full, and one of the reasons is the ever-improving cuisine and service. At Puntulina, they respect the tradition and use local ingredients, while serving beautifully presented dishes that expertly combine textures and flavours. The white cod cream with fried, thinly sliced, crispy pieces of homemade bread was a great starter. We followed the recommendation given to us by Pashmina, the excellent young waitress/sommelier - the third generation of the Pellizzer family – who joined her sister Rebecca that runs Puntulina, while their brother Jodelle works in the kitchen as one of the chefs. The big filet of a large fresh greater amberjack that arrived at the restaurant that morning was perfectly roasted, juicy, with crispy skin, and it was served with classic Swiss chard and potatoes. Simplicity brought to excellence. We were once again won over by their traditional dessert: a deconstructed kremšnita (from the German cremeschnitte, a vanilla custard slice) on a forest fruits sauce, with a puffy crispy pastry in the shape of a flower, and in the middle a delicious yellow vanilla cream and everything sprinkled with white powdered sugar. The selection of wines is also excellent, from the best Istrian labels to Italian wines and prosecco. Don’t forget to book a few days in advance.
