Gault&Millau's review 2026

Open since 1989, Burin has built a reputation as a place guests return to for reliable quality and a pleasant atmosphere. Now run by the third generation of the Katunar family, it showcases Mediterranean and Kvarner cuisine through local ingredients and a modern approach. The menu changes several times a year, following the rhythm of nature and ingredient availability, mainly featuring fresh fish, Kvarner shrimp, shellfish, and products from local family farms. Starters include blue fish savour stuffed sardines, or fish and meat carpaccio, enhanced by modern techniques and creative presentations. Main dishes respect tradition - cuttlefish stew with homemade gnocchi and braised beef cheeks with polenta are prepared over hours. Fresh grilled fish and Kvarner shrimp are must-tries when available. Meat dishes include porchetta (for two), duck breast with celery cream and orange sauce, and excellent lamb shank with pea puree. Located in a quiet street near the sea, the intimate interior supports warm and personal service typical of family-run restaurants. Special attention is paid to the wine list and pairing recommendations from the sommelier.
